NSDS Dress Code

Classical ballet aims to create graceful patterns and involves rigorous training. It is the fundamental technique for all classes. Dancers are strongly encouraged to take ballet with other techniques.

Pointe work in classical ballet is formalized by pointe technique. Dancer must have great strength and technique to be able to do pointe work.

Dancers must be accessed and approved by ballet instructor to do pointe work.

  • skin tone canvas ballet shoes - So Danca SD16, Capezio Hanami 2037W except Creative Movement, Kinder, and Pooler I wear pink leather ballet shoes

  • skin tone pointe shoes (must be approved by ballet instructor) 

  • skin tone tights to match 

  • Hair must in a bun or secured away from the face in all ballet classes.

Creative Movement & Rhythm (3-4 yrs)

  • any color leotard, tutu dresses, and/or skirts

Kinder Ballet/Tap Combo & Pooler I 

  • any color leotards, tutu dresses and/or skirts

 Ballet I, II, III,/Pooler II & III

  • black leotards, ballet skirts (optional)

Ballet IV

  • black leotards (can wear other color leotards on specific ballet days)

Movements of tap are concentrated in feet and ankles. Creating sounds and rhythms connecting musicality

Creative Movement & Rhythm (3-4 yrs)

  • any color  leotard, tutu dresses, and/or skirts

  • So Danca TA37/TA38 black patent or velcro blk patent tap shoe

Kinder Ballet/Tap Combo 

  • any color leotard, tutu dresses and/or skirts

  • So Danca TA06/TA07 black or buckle strap tap shoe

Tap I/Pooler I & II

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, fitted tops or tees

  • So Danca TA04/TA05 black

 Tap II, III, IV/Pooler  III

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, fitted tops or tees

  • black oxford tap shoes: Bloch Sync 321, Bloch Audeo Tap 381, or Bloch Respect 361

jazz

This style employs isolations of the body. The movements are technical and full bodied with the use of flexibility implemented in leaps and extensions. Musical theatre, contemporary jazz, jazz fusion, and commercial jazz can all be found in jazz class. Jazz students must take ballet class.

Jazz I & Pooler I

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, fitted tops or tees

  • Capezio EJ2C black or Bloch DN981 black

 Jazz II & III/Pooler II & III

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, fitted tops or tees

  • Bloch Pulse 470 black or Bloch Super Jazz 401 black

Concentrates with expressing a dancer's emotion. This style of dance uses technical elements of ballet, jazz, and modern. This style infuses musicality, fluid, and rigid structure in improv to create movement. Dancer must have 2 years ballet training and must take ballet class in conjunction with lyrical class.

A form of street dance and commercial jazz. Classes emphasize co-ordination, creativity, musicality, and rhythm.

Lyrical /Movement I & II, Pooler Lyrical

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, fitted tops or tees

  • skin tone turners (Capezio H06W), dance socks, or barefoot

All Classes

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, crops, tees, or  any comfortable clothing

  • sneakers

Exercise that develops well-rounded and full body physical fitness to improve the condition of the body. It develops muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

  • any style/color leotard, leggings, dance shorts, dance pants, crops, tees, or any comfortable clothing

  • foam block and stretch bands (ankle weights optional)
